The 39th Chablis Wine Competiton Awards 19 Medals

Marie Wodecki, a rising star in French sommellerie and named Best Young Sommelier of France in 2023, presided over the 39th Chablis Wine Competition held on January 18, 2025. The event was organized by the Chablis Office and the Bourgogne Wine Board (BIVB).

This year, the 72 members of the jury tasted the 2023 vintage of the Petit Chablis, Chablis and Chablis Premier Cru appellations, and the 2022 vintage of the AOC Chablis Grand Cru. They awarded 19 medals out of the 292 wines tasted.

A special feature of this competition is that professionals entering their wines are not allowed to be members of the jury. The panel includes journalists, restaurant owners, sommeliers, wine traders, oenologists, wine growers and enlightened amateurs.

The wines are judged in two rounds of tasting: the wines that score highest in the first round, when they are sampled by all the tasters, are then put before a “super” jury, which selects the medal winners.

Marie Wodecki

At just 26 years old, Marie Wodecki has established herself as a rising star on the French sommelier scene. After completing a science-focused baccalauréat, she pursued a Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts and Entrepreneurship at FERRANDI Paris. She then honed her skills in Michelin-starred establishments such as JY'S in Colmar and Yoann Conte's La Maison Bleue in Veyrier-du-Lac.

In 2019, she developed a passion for wine and pursued a specialized Sommellerie qualification in Savoie, followed by a Professional Certificate in Chamalières, in the Puy de Dôme region. She trained under renowned experts such as Philippe Faure-Brac, World's Best Sommelier 1992, and Xavier Thuizat, France's Best Sommelier 2022.

Her talent has been recognized with several distinctions, including Best Student Sommelier of France 2021 and Best Young Sommelier of France 2023. In 2024, she reached the semi-finals of the Best Sommelier of France competition.

After serving as Head Sommelier at the Auberge de Montmin, she is now preparing to take on a new challenge at the restaurant SABA in Annecy, France.
