CHABLIS IS ONE OF THE MOST WIDELY RECOGNIZED WINES IN THE WORLD
Chablis is one of the most widely recognized French wines in the world. A great Bourgogne wine, it is produced exclusively from the Chardonnay varietal and has four appellations (AOCs), namely Petit Chablis, Chablis, Chablis Premier Cru, and Chablis Grand Cru.
Chablis enjoys a northerly location, a history that dates back over millennia, a unique subsoil from the Kimmeridgean period of the Jurassic, a semi-continental climate, and passionate winemakers. Together, these elements result in inimitable dry white wines that are all about sophistication. They are dazzling and elegant, mineral and lively.
While they might sound simple – a single varietal, a single color, and always dry – the wines of Chablis offer an exceptional palette of expression. The Climats of the Bourgogne winegrowing region are now included on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and the Chablis region comprises no fewer than 40 of them. Its most well-known Premier Crus include Vaillons, Montmains, Montée de Tonnerre, Côte de Léchet, and Fourchaume. It also has seven Grand Crus, namely Bougros, Preuses, Vaudésir, Grenouilles, Valmur, Les Clos, and Blanchot.
This diversity ensures a multitude of potential food and wine combinations, for a simple aperitif amongst friends to more gastronomic pairings during festive meals.
The region offers rolling landscapes ideal for wine tourism and for exploring the local heritage, including the Abbey of Pontigny, the Obédiencerie, and the Collégiale Saint-Martin. It is also home to plenty of wine-related festivities such as the Saint-Vincent Tournante du Chablisien, the Chablis Wine Festival, and initiations into the Brotherhood of the Piliers Chablisiens.
This website, created for you by the Bourgogne Wine Board (BIVB), invites you on a voyage through these vineyards of the Yonne, halfway between Paris and Beaune. We hope you enjoy our wines!
